Memento Mori

Memento Mori was a group exhibition exploring some of the folklores and traditions around Halloween and All Saint's Day. I decided to centre my body of work on the Raven. The ravens’ seemingly jet-black plumage flashes with brilliant colour in different lights. The outward dark appearance of these intelligent birds have led them to be long associated with both prophecy and death in folk-lore throughout many different cultures. By capturing this iridescent subtlety I am reminding us that, whilst we have to accept the inevitability of our own mortality, there is beauty along the way.

There are also ink drawings of single feathers, created by drawing with the feather themselves – which nods to the striking idea throughout the folklore of many civilisations that a single feather found is a connection to a recently passed soul.
